New Music Canada Track of the Day for May 28th, 2007: Oh Susanna "Pretty Face"

There's an instrument that I just love and I always think: hmm, maybe I could learn how to play that one day. I'm talking about the pedal steel my friends. See, I have a friend who plays it and he's amazing and he makes it looks easy - I know it's not!! You've got levers, you've got pedals, you've got, well...way more than 6 strings not to mention how they're tuned!

So the other day, this friend and I were getting ready to jam together and he flips the pedal steel over to screw the legs onto it and I got a glimpse of what the underside of the instrument looks like - pretty complex looking - not your average Fender Telecaster by any means.

Anyway, when I was listening to the latest album Short Stories by Oh Susanna, I heard tons of pedal steel on it that sounded excellent and so when Oh Susanna stopped by CBC Radio 3 a week or so ago, I said - man I dig all the pedal steel work - who did that? Oh yeah she said, that's a guy named Burke Carroll and he's amazing. She told me how he plays on lots of people's records, folks like Justin Rutledge and such.

Anyway check out this super sweet track - maybe you'll be hooked on pedal steel too!!
